Heartwings Love Notes 295 - Thoughts On Pomegranates

Heartwings says, "Too much thinking before taking action can create hesitation."

The four pomegranates waited on the counter for me to open them and remove their delicious fleshy seeds. Day after day I thought of excellent reasons not to do it just then: I was wearing the wrong clothes, I didn't have the time, and so on. I even wrote the task onto my to-do list in an effort to generate the impetus to accomplish it.

What is so difficult about pomegranates? To begin with they have a lot of red juice that tends to splatter. It can make dreadful stains—though with the new stain removers that might not be fatal. Still, if I was wearing a good sweater and the stains didn't come out I would be upset. That took care of a number of days of not dealing with the pomegranates.

Another reason was that prying the little seeds out of the rind is time consuming and there were four pomegranates to be disassembled. They were all equally ripe. It's easier when you're going to do a messy job to do all of it rather than drag it out and only do a little at a time. It never seemed to me that I had quite enough time for the job.

One night I walked into the kitchen. The pomegranates stared accusingly from the counter as if to say, why are you neglecting us? What do you have against us anyway? Nothing, I replied staunchly. Realizing that I had no pressing tasks, and that I wore dark clothes that were not vulnerable to stains, I got to work.

Now I have a big bowl of luscious red seeds in the refrigerator and no pomegranates glaring at me. Oddly, there was a big difference between how difficult I thought the task would be and how it actually turned out. I have had this exact same experience before and I ought to have remembered. But then perhaps after all that was just the right time to do that particular task.

May you easily discover the best time for whatever tasks you have planned.

Blessings and Best Regards,
