Heartwings Love Notes 304 - The New Light of Spring

The light of the changing season has mercilessly revealed all the extra dust, dirt and smudges that accumulated during the dark winter days just past. It's no wonder I had the urge to clean. I wanted my home to reflect the shiny newness of spring. Unfortunately, the person who normally helps with the cleaning was unable to keep her usual bimonthly appointment. That left it up to me.

Making a list and sticking to it, I set about my tasks. Like cooking, cleaning is something I have had to figure out for myself. I have a file of good articles as well as some books on how to clean efficiently. Still I seem to lack the necessary approach or the skills to make it as easy as the writers imply. For instance, how often are you supposed to vacuum? Some experts suggest you run the vacuum every day. Is that for those who have pets and/or children. I can't imagine doing that, any more than I could wash the kitchen floor daily.

How about dust? Presumably, if you keep after it, it never gets a chance to settle. But how often am I supposed to dust? When I recently eyeballed some of my higher shelves with a view to dusting them I noticed that a slight film of it there. However it didn't seem too thick considering the last time they were dusted. My previous home was a lot dustier than this one. It helps that we now have a glass cabinet that keeps many of Stephen's collectibles free of it.

I did the bathrooms one day, the kitchen the next, and finally the vacuuming and dusting. Stephen helped with that. Doing the work a little at a time helped me to feel less oppressed, as did Stephen's help. I did feel really happy and proud once I had finished. Nevertheless I will also feel very happy when the person who helps me to clean returns. Then with fewer responsibilities I will be freer to be creative and perhaps I can even get started on the next Heartwings collection.

May you find a joyous balance between creativity and work.

Blessings and Best Regards,
Tasha Halpert
