Heartwings Love Notes 315 - Having a Slow Day

Heartwings says, "Time can be a hard taskmaster or a delightful companion."

I snapped the dry sticks off my flourishing honeysuckle vine. "You're not supposed to be gardening," Stephen called from the back porch. "This is your day off." "Actually, this is what I feel like doing right now," I called back. "I'm seeing this as a 'slow day', a day I can do what I want to do when I feel like it instead of following a schedule." He nodded and smiled. "Come in when you feel like it then; I have something I want to read you." As I went back to grooming the Honeysuckle I reflected on how lovely it was to just do what I felt like rather than what I thought I needed to do.

Stephen had suggested I take one day off a week. "I want you to last," he told me. "You work too hard." At first I protested, then I decided I'd listen and try it. I enjoy most of what I do, yet I also have things I put off, like working on my poetry, in favor of more urgent duties. This is because I get an enormous amount of satisfaction out of "doing." Vacations can be difficult because there is usually nothing then I need to do. Once away from home I often create tasks for myself just so I can feel good when they're finished.

A day of vacation didn't seem to be what I needed. Instead, that morning I decided to leave my watch on the bureau and allow myself to do just what I wanted to do. At one point I even sat and read a book. To me that was a relaxing day, a slow day, one in which I could sit back and enjoy whatever I wished to do, slowly and with joy in my heart.

May you find ways to slow down and enjoy your time.

Blessings and Best Regards,
Tasha Halpert
