Heartwings Love Notes 989 - Celebrations are important

"Heartwings says, "Marking special days with celebration brings joy to the heart."

When I was small, I looked forward to the holidays with great anticipation. Our family celebrations were special and usually involved meals with my grandmother or my great Alice in their special, lovely homes. Later on, I enjoyed helping my children celebrate the holidays and we evolved our own rituals. In addition, we celebrated achievements and goals so they were well noted and memorable. I have always felt celebrations were a necessary part of a happy life.

Now the USA is celebrating its birthday, and in addition, Stephen and I are doing the same for both his birthday on the 3rd and our wedding anniversary of 41 years on the 5th. We planned it that way when we got married. At the time that we had our large home and Inner Peace Center, we used to invite friends and acquaintances for three days of Peace and Love. There were tents on the lawn where people who came from a distance camped out. The swimming pool was very popular, as was the hot tub, which had to be emptied and scrubbed once the party was over. My spiral garden was also much enjoyed.

At the present, our days and our lifestyle are quieter. We live in a small apartment that's not really conducive to entertaining. This year a dear friend has kindly offered her home and lawn for a birthday party for Stephen's celebration, although it certainly won't last for three days! Some of the faces of those present will be the same ones we have seen over the years. Others, however will be more recently part of our lives. During the time we have spent together, we have been fortunate in meeting many kind, friendly, like minded souls with whom to celebrate and to share ourselves and our lives.

Stephen and I will spend our anniversary together going out for a meal for a joyous acknowledgment of our forty-one years together. Where has the time gone? The years seem short by comparison with the days. This makes it even more important to celebrate the special milestones when we move past them. Stephen is entering a new decade. He will be eighty. For a while it seemed to him to be a difficult hurdle. Now he is looking forward to the day and whatever the new decade will bring.

When the days of celebration have passed and only the memories remain, the way we have highlighted them frame them with a special glow. The happy faces alight with smiles as they sing Happy Birthday will remain in my memory, blending with the gladness I feel to be part of this day. We all need these to mark pauses in the normal flow of everyday life. Most especially, the child that lives always within us rejoices at the opportunity to have fun on those special days when we celebrate together.

May your celebrations be hearty and filled with joy and love.
