August

This is a relatively quiet month without a great deal of activity except toward the end. The last week is one to be mindful and aware at all times. The many aspects this month with the planet Uranus can indicate unexpected activity or unusual outcomes. Listen carefully to directions; be observant; and think up new ways of doing and being. Aspects with Pluto this month indicate change, however this may begin beneath the surface and not become obvious for some time to come. Generally speaking on the 1st responsible choices are indicated, the 3rd can help you to discover new approaches. The eclipse on the 5th brings change in social situations or family matters. Be careful on the 10th when obstacles could arise unless instead you tackle something stressful of your choosing. The 13th is a very energetic day when you may wish to focus carefully on what will bring you the greatest advantage. This carries over to the 14th as well. On the 17th spiritual opportunities may arise. Make your way along slowly as there could be long-term consequences as a result of today's choices.  The 18th is potentially hazardous, especially if you act without thinking. Pay real attention all day to whatever may be going on around you. New Moon on the 20th brings joyful, playful energy to the next two weeks. The 20th and 21st bring an opportunity for innovative thinking. The 22nd is a fine day to practice creativity. The 23rd could be important if you seek change. Be careful in motion on the 25th and 26th. Mind your tongue and think before you speak as well as act on the 26th.

August is the eighth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.

This month was originally named Sextilis in Latin, because it was the sixth month in the ancient Roman calendar, which started in March about 750 BC under Romulus. It became the eighth month either when January and February were added to the beginning of the year by King Numa Pompilius about 700 BC or when those two months were moved from the end to the beginning of the year by the decemvirs about 450 BC (Roman writers disagree). It was renamed in honor of Augustus in 8 BC because several of the most significant events in his rise to power, culminating in the fall of Alexandria, which fell in this month. August originally had 29 days in the Roman Republican calendar, but two days were added to it by Julius Caesar beginning 45 BC giving it its modern total of 31 days. Augustus did not take a day from February when Sextilis was renamed in his honor.
