August

There are multiple Venus aspects this month, indicating that there is an important general focus on choices to be made, examined and possibly reexamined. The New and Full Moons take place on the 9th and 24th. New Moon in Leo brings romantic opportunities as well as creative ones. Full Moon in Pisces asks us to care lovingly for those with limitations or afflictions. It can also bring spiritual awakenings.

Energy on the 3rd and 4th can be very intense and it will be important to watch your temper as well as be very mindful around any activities that involve sharp tools or cutting type machinery. The 7th suggests being careful with any choices you make and indicates an opportunity to either discover what is unusual or unique or feel overwhelmed by it. This combines with another aspect on the 7th and 8th indicating the importance of taking responsibility for one's choices.

Be sure to initiate any new projects, major purchases, or purchases of needed machinery before the 20th. Mercury turns retrograde on the 20th, when it will be the time to do all those "re" activities for the next 3 weeks. As the we approach retrograde Mercury, take time to go through things and reorganize them.

There is a strenuous aspect on the 21st that will overshadow the first three weeks of the month indicating that responsibilities that have been ignored or shunted aside may return to create problems for those who attempted to evade them. When an aspect between two slower moving planets takes place, it tends to be in effect much longer than just on the day it becomes exact, and more strenuous before than after that day.

Romantic Leo gives way to focused Virgo on the 23rd so have fun in the sun during the earlier part of the month, and then get ready for school days and all the activities fall brings.

August is the eighth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.

This month was originally named Sextilis in Latin, because it was the sixth month in the ancient Roman calendar, which started in March about 750 BC under Romulus. It became the eighth month either when January and February were added to the beginning of the year by King Numa Pompilius about 700 BC or when those two months were moved from the end to the beginning of the year by the decemvirs about 450 BC (Roman writers disagree). It was renamed in honor of Augustus in 8 BC because several of the most significant events in his rise to power, culminating in the fall of Alexandria, which fell in this month. August originally had 29 days in the Roman Republican calendar, but two days were added to it by Julius Caesar beginning 45 BC giving it its modern total of 31 days. Augustus did not take a day from February when Sextilis was renamed in his honor.
