August

The month begins with Saturn stationary direct on the 2nd at which point it will be moving on through Scorpio toward Sagittarius which it will enter next month. Saturn remains retrograde in Scorpio encouraging us to reassess responsibilities for change we thought we were finished with. Use the next month or so to go back over the past two and a half years to be sure that any responsibilities or structural changes in your life are rock solid.

Jupiter changes signs this month on the 11th, leaving romantic Leo behind for practical Virgo; good health becomes a focus of education. Practical gifts are emphasized. Use the next 12 months or so to focus on increasing the efficiency and incorporating good health into your life. Mars moves into Leo on the 8th; romance could be energized, heart health and child abuse could enter the limelight. Games, gambling, and the potential to be hurt in a romantic situation are all featured as well.

Mercury enters Virgo on the 7th heralding more news and communications around health issues. It will be easier to be making order or eliminating excess in your devices of communication as well as in your life so take advantage of its tour in Virgo to tidy up where things have become disorganized or messy. It enters Libra on the 27th;  Libra is about balance so your efforts then would be toward making sure you give others time to communicate with or to you. It will also be easier to meet people and get to know them then.

The New Moon in Leo on the 14th encourages us to take a greater interest in new romance or ways to have fun. Those with children might discover new ways to enhance their relationships now and over the next two weeks. New Moons are times to work toward increase, and since Leo is the sign of fun, romance, and playful behavior we can think of ways to begin to incorporate more of these in our lives over the next two weeks to continue onward.

The Full Moon in Pisces on the 29th suggests that anything that needs winding up or finishing can best be addressed now and over the next two weeks. Pisces being the last sign in the zodiac also suggests that a cycle has ended, as the next full moon will be in Aries, starting a new cycle of full moons for the year to come. Think about what in your life might need closure, winding up or winding down. On a mundane level, do you have too many shoes? Perhaps you might give some away.

August is the eighth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.

This month was originally named Sextilis in Latin, because it was the sixth month in the ancient Roman calendar, which started in March about 750 BC under Romulus. It became the eighth month either when January and February were added to the beginning of the year by King Numa Pompilius about 700 BC or when those two months were moved from the end to the beginning of the year by the decemvirs about 450 BC (Roman writers disagree). It was renamed in honor of Augustus in 8 BC because several of the most significant events in his rise to power, culminating in the fall of Alexandria, which fell in this month. August originally had 29 days in the Roman Republican calendar, but two days were added to it by Julius Caesar beginning 45 BC giving it its modern total of 31 days. Augustus did not take a day from February when Sextilis was renamed in his honor.
