Our New Year begins with a quiet time before the very busy and energetic New Moon eclipse on the 4th in Capricorn, the sign that concerns politics and business. It could presage a change in the political situation or the stock market, or both. The energy of the eclipse is greatly enhanced by a number of aspects that relate to expansion, so we could wake up to some interesting news, or something could begin then that would be revealed in the next days. Mercury is direct now and so is everything else until the 26th when Saturn turns retrograde. Foot dragging and postponement of obligations as well as the need for strengthening structure that is already in place is typical of this next six month period. However, it is a good time to review obligations and make sure of their outcome as well as go over and solidify what is involved in any previously made commitments. The Full Moon on January 19th is also in Capricorn, bringing a full tide to business enterprises and politics. The two days leading up to it are energetic, implying change is possible now. On the 20th, the Sun enters altruistic Aquarius. On the 22nd Jupiter enters Aries for most of the year ahead, bringing opportunities for good fortune to the Fire signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Plan something special for the 4th, as there lots of good time fun possibilities available to all. The 6th and 7th may try your patience or call for added same. A special day to be mindful if driving or involved in any sort of communications is the 10th . The 25th & 26th might also present obstacles to different forms of communication. For details, please check out the daily planner. |

A Lusitanian chief called Punicus, invaded the Roman territory, defeated two Roman governors and slew their troops. The Romans resolved to send a consul to Spain and, in order to accelerate the despatch of aid, "they even made the new consuls enter on office two months and a half before the legal time" (15th of March). |

January 7th, Russia - Christmas Day Christmas celebration in Russia is not as widely followed as in Western countries in favor of the New Year celebration. Christmas is celebrated on the 7th of January (which corresponds to 25th December in the Julian Calendar). The tradition of celebrating Christmas has been revived since 1992, after decades of suppression by the communist government. It is centered on the Christmas Eve "Holy Supper", which consists of 12 servings, one to honor each of Jesus' apostles. The Russian traditions were largely kept alive by shifting some of them, including the visit by gift-giving "Grandfather Frost" and his "Snowmaiden", to New Year's Day. Many current Russian Christmas customs, including their Christmas tree, or "yolka" (spruce, sometimes pine instead of it), were brought by Peter the Great, after his western travels in the late 17th century. |
