August

The aspects for this month are relatively mild and I don't expect any heavy events. Surprises might be in the wind--both happy and not so, however, you never know how things turn out in the end and sometimes what looks good ends up the reverse and vice versa. Most of the days with rare exceptions are either completely tranquil or occasionally very busy with aspects. With a Leo Sun in the sky it seems a good month to relax and take it easy at least until the Sun moves into Virgo on the 23rd.

Just past midnight Venus faces off against Uranus,  then smiles at Saturn around 6:30 in the morning. Finally, Mars gets feisty with Jupiter in the evening. Unusual choices  might prevail, though made late in on July 31 or early on Aug 1st they might not prove lasting. That changes later so avoid fixed positions until after 6:30 AM. The afternoon and evening might bring excess activity and/or too much of a good thing! Aug 2nd brings interesting messages, perhaps exaggerated stories earlier and then disruptive ones later.

Things are quiet until the 7th when Mars and Neptune may bring tricky negotiations. On the 8th, surprises of all sorts: Uranus actively engages first with Mercury then the Sun. This planet highlights the unusual and unexpected. There's a bit of stubborn blockage on Saturday morning and then a Full Moon on Sunday brightens up the landscape. Quiet times now: from the 12th on Venus moves into Leo--we all feel more generous and cheerful. On Friday the 15th Mercury moves into Virgo and it's easier to get our thoughts organized.

The 17th and 18th are brightened by a lovely conjunction of Venus and Jupiter, lucky days for all. Mild confusion could prevail the evening of the 18th, however balance provides clarity. Again not much happens until the 21st when a strong Mercury trine Pluto provides excellent timing for necessary changes. On the 23rd the Sun enters Virgo. Practicality is highlighted for all.

The New Moon on the 25th sails in on an interesting combination of aspects all early that could mean some positive changes for the good. On the 26th Venus and Saturn square off--don't be disappointed if what you choose ends up to be burdensome. Then the 27th Venus squares Mars, watch out for discomfort over disagreements; instead find ways to agree to disagree. Finally on the 29th a Sun Mercury opposition could provide either confusion or clarity depending on your perspective and how you handle potential deception.

The Day by Day Astro planner follows. I am always happy for any comments on how things factor out for you. The stars are a guide, not a force; follow your own light and discover where with their help it can lead you.

August is the eighth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.

This month was originally named Sextilis in Latin, because it was the sixth month in the ancient Roman calendar, which started in March about 750 BC under Romulus. It became the eighth month either when January and February were added to the beginning of the year by King Numa Pompilius about 700 BC or when those two months were moved from the end to the beginning of the year by the decemvirs about 450 BC (Roman writers disagree). It was renamed in honor of Augustus in 8 BC because several of the most significant events in his rise to power, culminating in the fall of Alexandria, which fell in this month. August originally had 29 days in the Roman Republican calendar, but two days were added to it by Julius Caesar beginning 45 BC giving it its modern total of 31 days. Augustus did not take a day from February when Sextilis was renamed in his honor.
