With much of the month involved with a retrograde Mercury, we have time to rethink, redo, repair, restore, and perhaps remember. There are several very active days astrologically, near the beginning of the month. Expect busy energy on and around the 4th and the 6th. Things then quiet down for a couple of weeks. New Moon falling on the 11th in Aries gives our spirits a boost as the Equinox approaches. Set your goals and intentions for what you want to begin for the year ahead.
Mercury turns direct on the 17th, so it's not only good luck for the Irish that day, but good for us all as stalled or delayed projects and goals now begin to get under way. The Equinox on the 20th brings the energy of Aries to the world stage. We are coming out of a period with a number of planets all in Pisces. Now it's Aries turn. The Sun in Aries will soon be joined by Venus, the next day and the two traveling side by side could spread some sunshine around. Aries is a time when beginnings may be planned and set into motion. Powered by Mars, Aries energy is strong and vibrant, sometimes too much so. Aries teaches us to be quicker to notice what direction we're going in or face the consequences. Aries can bring us out of the winter doldrums and sing us into the thrust of spring. What may be helpful to note is that this month Uranus, planet of esoteric wisdom as well as unexpected circumstances will be joined by the Sun, Venus, and Mars which could make for some excitement during March. Perhaps we will have an interesting Spring. The Full Moon in Libra on the 27th makes contact with a great many planets during the course of the day. This may make for a high energy day, with important legal activity a possibility. The last days of the month hold the promise of considerable energetic expression. The dates in and round the Full Moon look very busy, with the 28th having a strong focus on Uranian energy. It could be a "hold onto your hats" day, and it could pass completely quietly only to emerge with a bang at some other time in the future with the hatching of something that began on the 27th. Enjoy the Month, and those of you who write New Moon Abundance checks, know that your timing is from 3:51 PM on the 11th, until that time the 12th. |

March was originally the first month of the Roman calendar before the winter months of January and February were added about 700 BC by King Numa Pompilius. It ceased to be the first month of the calendar year (the year when displayed as twelve months) about 450 BC during the time of the decemvirs, when January assumed that position. Roman consuls entered office in March between 222 BC and 153 BC, hence Roman events dated via the consular year began in March during that period. The numbered year began on March 1 in Russia until the end of the fifteenth century. Great Britain and her colonies continued to use March 25 until 1752, the same year they finally adopted the Gregorian calendar. |

In Finnish, the month is called maaliskuu, which originates from maallinen kuu meaning earthy month. This is because in maaliskuu earth started to show from under the snow. The Saxons also called March Rhed-monat (for their goddess Rhedam); ancient Britons called it hyld-monath (meaning loud or stormy). |
