August

August begins with relative quiet. Mercury is back up to speed after its retrograde motion, and while the big three are moving that way, everything else is at its usual pace. The Sun in Leo occupies most of the month, bringing a sense of romance and drama into the big picture. Leos have very big hearts, and most of us feel generous and loving during these three weeks. It's a time to be playful before the seriousness of Virgo sobers us up on the 23rd.

Mercury begins the month in Cancer, changes to Leo on the 8th where it brings mental warmth and generous thinking. Then in time for back to school, on the 23rd it's in organized Virgo helping us get ready for the end of the sweet and lazy days of summer and the beginning of the active fall season. Venus moves into Libra on the 16th inclining us to choose what is balanced and harmonious in our lives or our possessions. Mars into Leo on the 27th enhances romance for the next 6 weeks.

The New Moon on the 6th suggests looking to increase opportunities to love and give to our loved ones. Remember that what goes around comes around; if you do this you have a win/win situation. Make your wish list for the welfare of loved ones and you will wish yourself well. A wish for an increase in opportunities to play and have fun is appropriate. The Full Moon in Aquarius on the 20th suggests letting go of anything that does not further your ideals or your social groups.

The 4th is a day for thinking outside the box as well as for seeking out whatever is unusual or inventive. On the 7th be aware of opportunities that could be life changing or possibly work in your favor through change. The 11th is not a good day to argue, instead, find ways to reach out and communicate differently. The 14th is another day for innovative thinking. Solve a long standing problem with a different approach.

On the 20th and 21st there could be unexpected blessings or an unforeseen expansion of home, family, or real estate. Watch your budget. On the 23rd or 24th be careful not to make a choice you could regret--postpone that decision for a day or two. On the 25th work to stay focused and be mindful if administering medicine. On the 26th there is a potential for confusion if the truth is not told. Check carefully if purchasing anything innovative.

On the 26th and 27th Watch for an opportunity to fix a long standing problem. Once again be mindful of your budget and shop wisely. On the 28thMuch can be accomplished in meetings or for discussion of important changes. The 29th and 30th are good days for working to achieve organization and accommodation.

August is the eighth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.

This month was originally named Sextilis in Latin, because it was the sixth month in the ancient Roman calendar, which started in March about 750 BC under Romulus. It became the eighth month either when January and February were added to the beginning of the year by King Numa Pompilius about 700 BC or when those two months were moved from the end to the beginning of the year by the decemvirs about 450 BC (Roman writers disagree). It was renamed in honor of Augustus in 8 BC because several of the most significant events in his rise to power, culminating in the fall of Alexandria, which fell in this month. August originally had 29 days in the Roman Republican calendar, but two days were added to it by Julius Caesar beginning 45 BC giving it its modern total of 31 days. Augustus did not take a day from February when Sextilis was renamed in his honor.
