Heartwings Love Notes 956 - Birthday Presence

Heartwings says, "The presence of birthdays makes an occasion for presents."

My family and friends just helped me celebrate my 85th birthday on Zoom. Until lately, I have not been open about my chronological age, preferring to say "I'm ageless," because in many ways, that's how I feel. However, on this birthday I decided to reveal myself to the world as my actual age because I am proud to have reached it, and to be as youthful as I look, feel and am. My goal in life has for a very long time been to present myself as a good example. My mother used to say, "you ought to be proud to tell people your age," and now I can say that I am.

Because I didn't wish to be the occasion for anyone becoming ill, I decided against an in-person gathering, and instead explored the potential for an on-line party using zoom. Together with my kind eldest daughter and granddaughter, I was able to set up a party and sent out invitations. I tried to include everyone I thought I would enjoy seeing and would enjoy being present. Though I hope not to have forgotten anyone, I'm sure I might have. If so, I do apologize. Please forgive me. Those that were able to come told me they were happy to be there, and their presence was a gift I enjoyed very much receiving.

I have also received some lovely presents. Among them an Amazon gift card, a check for a substantial amount, flowers and a beautiful set of books from my beloved husband. Above and beyond the physical presents, I am enormously grateful for the shared stories people contributed at the party. Their memories of days gone by, the ways that people said I had been helpful, and the entertaining tales of times together all warmed my heart and made me smile as well as at times, laugh heartily. Then there were the sweet cards people sent, both on the internet and in the mail. I only found time to sit down and open them today! They were beautiful and thoughtful. As well, they added to the pleasure I gained from my birthday.

The joy of seeing the dear faces of my family members and of so many friends has warmed my heart and made me feel very glad. In addition, their kind words have made me enormously grateful. It is a wonderful experience to have been given so much affirmation that I have succeeded in what I have tried, and hope to continue to do with my life. For as long as I live, it is my intention to shine as much light as I can both for me and for others to see by. May it be so.

May you receive lovely present hen life presents you with a birthday.
