Heartwings Love Notes 971 - Taking Satisfaction

Heartwings says, "The doing of a long term task can be fully satisfying."

Once every four weeks I get out all our supplements, sort the small envelopes with our initials on them and set to work to get out our daily portions. Because I am sensitive to certain common ingredients in multiple vitamins, I can't take them all in a single pill. I have been doing this for a good many years, so it doesn't bother me to spend between an hour and a half to two doing it. It gives me great satisfaction to look at the basket filled with groups of small envelopes pinned with paperclips, ready to take six days a week. I always take one day off as I was advised to by a health practitioner.

It makes me happy to accomplish a task that will last for a while. So much of what most of us do needs to be done daily, or at least several times a week. After a while these tasks almost become automatic and are done without thought. Another of my favorite lasting jobs is to rearrange or tidy up shelves in my hallway pantry, or to neaten up bureau drawers. Going through files and discarding ones that are no longer useful is also satisfying. While I can take pleasure in these small tasks completed, the finishing of a big job that will last a while is very special indeed.

However, it is also important to take satisfaction in those very automatic daily tasks. I learned this myself when I had my hip operation and couldn't put on my own socks, let alone manage to get into my jeans. Fortunately, I can now do the things that I needed help with then. This helped me to become grateful in ways I had never been before. Experience is a good teacher. As my gratitude for these small blessings deepens, I grow aware of how much there is in my life for me to appreciate. Long ago I heard Oprah speak about the importance of an attitude of gratitude. These days as I acknowledge my satisfaction, I also express my gratitude for so much in my life.

May you find much in your life to provide you with satisfaction.
